Since 1972, as an Artist, Biologist, and Photographer I have focused on making artworks about the natural world, its diversity, and beauty. At the core of my work is a lifelong appreciation and respect for Nature and an understanding of my role within it. Hopefully my work speaks to others who may not have the opportunity or thought to look more closely and intently at their surroundings. A tree’s bark, a withering leaf, a dragonflies wing venation, microscopic pond life, a passing cloud are all exquisitely beautiful and fascinating to me. As a child I had a basement laboratory where I explored, experimented, and invented. As an adult my studio is my laboratory of continuing discovery and expression.
As you explore this website you will find that much of my work involves art making techniques from Asia (mostly China and Japan). I find the traditional Asian aesthetic more aligned with my thinking and feeling and, as a “tool user” I have found the tools of Asian art to be in a class of their own…refined, elegant and a joy to work with.
